OUR FOURTH YEAR ON THE WATER!!!
The Rotary Club of Lunesdale is delighted to announce that the FOURTH Annual Charity Dragon Boat Challenge will take place at Halton Training Camp on the River Lune near Lancaster on Sunday 5th June 2011, raising funds for CancerCare and Rotary Charities.
Run by professional organisers Gable Events, the challenge is open to anyone over 16 and a total of 28 crews can take part. No rowing experience is needed, just an ability to swim and plenty of enthusiasm! Crews that have taken part in previous years have found it a tremendous team-building activity - dressing up in team colours just adds to the atmosphere - and competitive spirit. The race takes place over a 200m course; all equipment is provided by Gable Events, as is a professional helmsman, who will shout encouragement and keep everyone in a straight line!
Venue
The training camp offers a superb venue for racing and a fun day is guaranteed whatever the weather. Teams are encouraged to set up a gazebo as a base and bring a picnic, but food and non-alcoholic drinks will also be available to purchase on site.
Entries can be for crews without boats, boats without crews or boats WITH crews (we like these best!) BUT each boat MUST have a sponsor AND a crew to take part. If you are missing one or the other we will do our best to match you up, but we can’t promise anything, so it is much better to get your crew sponsored up front by your employer, a supplier or some other local organisation.
Crews must comprise 8-10 paddlers plus a drummer - squads may be larger. Crews can be mixed, all female or all male and organisations may enter more than one crew. The minimum age for participation is 16 years and parental consent must be provided. No previous experience of dragon boat racing is required but all crew members must be able to swim 50 metres in light clothing and in moving water and compete entirely at their own risk. Water safety cover is provided by the organisers.
Entry Fees (VAT not applicable):
Boat and Crew £350
Boat only £350
Crew only NIL
Entry includes:
• Dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment
• At least 3 races per crew (subject to weather conditions)
• A trophy for the overall winning team and medals for the top three teams
• A team prize for the crew raising the most money for charity
• An individual prize for the person raising the most money for charity
• Souvenir event programme
Entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis with full payment. No refunds will be given once an entry has been accepted.
Charity Sponsorship Having entered, each crew is asked to raise a minimum of £50 per person, to be split equally between CancerCare and the Rotary Club charitable fund. Official sponsor forms and tips on maximising your sponsorship total will be supplied with your entry confirmation.
ALL sponsorship forms and money MUST be handed in to Race Control before your crew’s first race of the day.
